If you’re a 614 resident, you know with spring comes a long-standing Columbus tradition: Franklin Park Conservatory’s Hat Day! We love this day and all that it celebrates and benefits. Proceeds from Hat Day benefit the Conservatory’s youth education and outreach programs, which annually serve thousands of children of all ages and backgrounds.
While we love springtime in Ohio, it can often lead to unpredictable weather conditions (as we’ve experienced recently). To ensure you look and feel your best, we have styled chic Hat Day looks for any May weather conditions.
JACKET | SKIRT | SHOES | BAG | HAT | EARRING | UMBRELLA
Rain. Never an ideal weather element we want for Hat Day, but always a possibility! When rain is on the horizon for this glorious spring event, we like to add in just a few elements that make the spring showers more tolerable. First up, the shoes. If you are the gal who still wants a nice heel to keep the lines of your look nice and long, we recommend a platform or block heel style that is going to give you stability and balance. And be mindful of shoe fabrication too! This one by Prada is perfect. You will have stability and be able to wipe it down easily after wearing it. For the hat and rainy conditions, opt for something simple and non-fussy that works beautifully with an updo or ponytail. This will aid in ensuring that you feel your best no matter how rainy or windy it is. And lastly, a chic umbrella to complement your perfectly styled outfit is always welcome!
DRESS | SHOES | BAG | FASCINATOR | EARRING | CUFF
When the weather is warm, we love a bold print in a breathable fabrication (à la linen!) to keep you cool, but also conceal any unwanted “glow.” This Farm Rio frock should do the trick, and we topped it off with a fabulous fascinator that will be lightweight and also not trap in the heat. The best part is that the other pieces are super versatile and can easily be worn for countless other occasions. This dress is begging to go on summer vacation!
DRESS | SHOES | BAG | HAT | SHAWL | EARRING
Spring has sprung, and dressing for events such as Hat Day and Derby parties is upon us! Finding just the right hat (and outfit) can be so much fun; however, here in Ohio (and many other places), the unpredictable weather can make this feat challenging. There are many alternatives to the traditional hat, so don’t let a windy day make you blow your top! Stick with something that is small and something you can secure. I love the look of this beret. It’s SO chic! Remember to attach some bobby pins so it doesn’t blow away on a windy day!
