February is American Heart Month, a great time to focus on heart health, especially for women. We are collaborating with the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women initiative to raise awareness about the leading cause of death for women: cardiovascular disease. We want to equip you with the necessary tools to ensure the health of you and your loved ones. Finding your confidence starts with feeling your best!
When we spoke with the women at Central Ohio American Heart Association’s office, they provided some startling statistics:
Over 75% of women are diagnosed with high blood pressure after menopause.
One in five women will have a stroke. About 55,000 more women than men have a stroke each year.
Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of new moms.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. Click here for resources on CPR training.
Ways that you can prevent cardiovascular disease:
Color isn’t just important for fashion; it’s essential to have a variety of colors in your meals.
We know this one is obvious, but meditation, regular exercise, gratitude journals, and even pets are proven to alleviate stress.
Not only is fitness a great way to connect with friends and family, but it also reduces stress and helps keep your body healthy!
Whether it’s self-evaluation or through a doctor, it’s important to know what blood pressures are normal for your body.
Decreasing your risk can start at any time in your life, but it’s important to be able to recognize the signs of risks for you or a loved one.
Share this information with others so they know the warning signs and how to avoid cardiovascular disease at any phase of life.
A great way to advocate for this cause is to participate in National Wear Red Day on February 7th!
If you’re local to Ohio, join us in attending the Go Red Luncheon on February 20th! If you’re not local, click here for more information on Go Red in your community.
Lastly, it wouldn’t be a Wardrobe Therapy blog without some outfit inspiration! Whether you’re attending the Go Red Luncheon or participating in Wear Red Day, we’ve included a variety of formalities and styles to make advocacy for women’s heart health stylish!
