Navigating the ins and outs of fashion can be tricky, especially in the world of social media and micro trends. We are constantly being told the items we bought last season are no longer relevant. Luckily, your fashion experts are here with answers and tips for purchasing the right items to ensure you are cool for seasons to come!
For this week’s blog, we are focusing on the essentials. Updating your everyday basics will improve the core of your wardrobe and help make getting ready that much easier.
Denim
We’ve seen massive changes in denim styles over the past ten years, making it pretty challenging to stay up-to-date. As you have probably heard, skinny jeans are not relevant at the moment. If your closet is filled with skinny denim, we recommend purging all but one or two pairs; the medium to dark washes with no rips or distressing. These will come in handy for layering under tall boots this coming fall. As for a skinny jean alternative, we recommend the straight-leg silhouette. Equally as flattering but not nearly as tight around the calf and ankle. Style your straight-leg denim with a great pair of flats (ballet or loafers for extra coolness) or with a heel. Read our Power Suiting blog to see how we style the straight-leg denim for work.
We love this pair from Favorite Daughter (right). The wash and high waistline give that effortlessly cool look.
Blazers
Dated blazers are one of the most common items we purge in clients’ closets. We understand it can be difficult to decipher which style blazers are cool and which are dated. With blazers, it is all about the fit. In the past few years, we have seen oversized blazers everywhere. While they are chic, we know that style is not for everyone.
This Veronica Beard blazer (right) offers a happy medium. The longer length is great for many body shapes. The outdated blazer (left) is ill-fitting, with the sleeves being too short and the body being too small. If you opt for a cropped blazer, make sure it is roomier around the waist. When purchasing a longer blazer, it is okay to keep the lean silhouette.
Sandals
As we approach sandal season, we want to make sure you are well equipt with the right shoes to keep you looking cool!
Instead of the T-strap sandal, try the toe wrap style! These Vince ones (bottom) are a client favorite. With a supporting back strap and cushioned base, your feet will thank you for making this switch.
